LATEST MESSAGE FROM OUR
ACTING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
April 2025
Something I have always found curious is that across the globe, stigma is a universal language—one that doesn’t care about borders or backgrounds, and it’s especially powerful when it comes to mental health. For too long, society has whispered about mental illness in hushed tones, or worse, ignored its existence altogether. People that seek mental health services are treated as though they are crazy, or unstable. Truly, the stigma is exactly the same across cultures, it just varies in the intensity of that stigma. This stigma creates barriers to seeking help, perpetuates isolation, and reinforces the harmful idea that mental health struggles are something to be ashamed of. But just as stigma speaks a universal language, so does the power of change. We are at a critical moment in shifting how we understand mental health. Every person, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported. When we challenge the myths and misconceptions about mental health, we take a step toward breaking down the walls of fear and judgment that have held so many people back from seeking the care they need. This is what La Concordia strives to accomplish. Our mission is clear: To provide compassionate, personalized care and overall wellness to all unable to access mental health care due to systemic challenges. But, I think it is safe to argue that every mental health organization strives to create a world where mental health is seen as just as important as physical health. A world where seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Let us continue to be the voices of empathy, understanding, and compassion, turning the universal language of stigma into one of support and solidarity. Together, we can speak a new language—one of healing, hope, and acceptance. La Concordia, Your Wellness, Your Health, You Deserve It
