Residency Program

At La Concordia, we view education as a vital component of individual and community wellness. La Concordia's Psychology Residency Program is structured to cultivate well-rounded, trauma-informed, and culturally affirming clinicians through comprehensive, competency-based training in alignment with APA guidelines. Residents receive advanced clinical instruction in psychological assessment, diagnosis, evidence-based treatment planning and intervention, and interdisciplinary consultation. Additional training areas include professional ethics, legal standards, systems of care, and private practice administration. Learning is supported through  two hours of individual and two hours of group supervision which includes case presentations, seminar lectures, and structured didactic activities, with professional development further enhanced through mentorship, peer consultation, and opportunities to facilitate training for other providers. Residents are encouraged to participate in community-based didactics and professional conferences related to their areas of clinical focus. Scholarly engagement, including the critical review of relevant literature, supports the integration of theory and practice in treatment planning. Each resident follows an individualized training plan grounded in the development of APA-defined profession-wide competencies, which are formally reviewed on a quarterly basis or as needed. Supervision is readily available, with primary and delegated licensed supervisors providing guidance as clinical issues arise. Through this integrated model, residents are equipped for independent practice and leadership in delivering ethical, culturally responsive, and evidence-informed care.

Elements of quality clinically focused postdoctoral training

The Post-Doctoral Residency at La Concordia Wellness Center is a planned and structured training experience intentionally designed to prepare residents for advanced clinical practice rather than functioning merely as a means to accrue supervised hours for licensure. The program is guided by a clear sequence of training activities that emphasize professional growth, depth of clinical skill, and integration of theory into practice.

Training always takes precedence over service delivery. The structure, content, and volume of each resident’s caseload are carefully monitored to ensure that the primary focus remains on learning and competency development. Residents receive a minimum of two hours of individual supervision each week throughout the duration of the program, allowing for intensive case consultation, professional mentoring, and ongoing feedback.

The residency is administered by a licensed doctoral-level psychologist who directs and organizes all aspects of the program, oversees the use of training resources, and ensures that the experience aligns with defined goals and competencies. In addition to the Training Director, the program includes at least two other licensed doctoral-level psychologists who dedicate sufficient time and expertise to provide quality supervision and mentoring.

Residents participate in regularly scheduled educational activities designed to enrich their clinical knowledge and strengthen their professional identity. These structured learning experiences include didactic seminars, case conferences, interdisciplinary consultations, and opportunities for research or program development consistent with the center’s mission.
